Former students of the temporary East Middle School in the Crossroads Industrial Park would be surprised if they saw their school today. All that is left are the restrooms. The classrooms, library and offices have been cleared to make way for the new home of Turbo Supply, a local company that is expanding in Joplin.
The company, which sells new and remanufactured engine turbochargers, has outgrown its operation at 2237 S. Outer Road. That expansion will increase Turbo Supply's workforce in Joplin by 70. The company, which employs a total of 210 people, has branches in Odessa and Houston, Texas, and parts distribution warehouses in Reno, Nevada, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, company officers, along with city and school officials, participated in a ceremonial ground breaking for what will become a 115,000-square-foot plant. "With our growth, we needed a facility and business setting that reflected the quality and professional services we provide to our nationwide customer base," said Kyle Thiessen, Turbo Supply president. "This building and Crossroads Park met those needs as well as providing a great location with access to two interstates."
